About Us
American Legion Riders Chapter 138 in Port Tampa City is part of The American Legion Department of Florida, bringing together Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons of The American Legion members who share a passion for motorcycling and service. Guided by the motto “For the Cause, NOT the Applause,” our chapter supports veterans, their families, and our community through charitable events, ceremonies, and safe, organized rides.
Membership Types
Chapter 138 offers several membership categories to welcome the broader Legion Family. Riders, Supporters, Future Riders, and Social Members participate in chapter activities, charity events, and organized rides both locally to Tampa Bay/District 15, as well as state/Department-wide. Dues are $25 per year.
Rider Members Full Rider Members must belong to The American Legion, SAL, or Auxiliary and maintain ownership of a licensed and insured motorcycle, trike, or auto‑cycle with proper endorsements.
Support Members Supporters are Legion Family members who wish to participate without meeting motorcycle ownership requirements. In Chapter 138, Supporters have both a voice and a vote and may hold any chapter officer position listed in the Standing Rules.
Future Riders Future Riders are Junior members of the Auxiliary or SAL who participate under the supervision of a parent or guardian. A signed waiver is required, and Future Riders proudly wear the designated Future or Junior Rider patch.
Social Members Social Members are immediate family of Chapter 138 Riders or Supporters. They may attend meetings and participate socially but do not vote, are not counted toward membership totals, and do not wear the ALR back patch. A signed waiver is required, and an annual donation equal to dues is encouraged but not mandatory.

Meetings include chapter updates, ride planning, charitable initiatives, safety briefings, and reports from officers and committees. ALR Chapter 138 leadership encourages all interested parties to attend a meeting to learn more. We also post all ride lists, event flyers, and general information on a corkboard at the Post - ask a bartender for more details!
