Our History
American Legion Post 138 has long served as a gathering place for veterans, military families, and members of the Port Tampa community.
The Post proudly bears the name of Hugh Gilbert “Buddy” Strickland, a young United States Marine from Port Tampa who was killed in action during World War II. Naming the Post in his honor reflects our commitment to remembering those who served, preserving their legacy, and ensuring their sacrifice is never forgotten.
Over the years, Post 138 has continued that mission through veteran advocacy, patriotic programs, youth support, community service, fellowship, and assistance to military families. Our history is built not only on the veterans who came before us, but also on every member who continues to serve today.
Post 138 remains a place where veterans can find connection, families can find support, and the community can come together in the spirit of service, remembrance, and American pride.
